Statement by Executive Director Julie Ann Smith on ACF Commissioner Beal’s Effort to Include Wild Blueberries in the Market Facilitation Program
“There are many positive changes on the horizon for Maine’s wild blueberry farmers,” said Julie Ann Smith. “Soon two new beneficial laws will take effect – one to expand the Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine and another to clarify the blueberry tax. It’s important to continue all efforts to preserve this heritage crop that is unique to our state. Expanding the Market Facilitation Program to include wild blueberries would be another important step towards protecting this valuable sector of agriculture in Maine.”
